Today, we are going to review on Sony’s 4K flagship action camera, the FDR-X3000R and the sony action cam live view remote.
As you can see from the looks, it resembles one of a video camcorder with that rectangular and sleek physical body. Although it looks big at first, it is much smaller and compact than you think it is.
The first thing that makes the X3000R unique would definitely be the image stabilisation, which is controlled by what Sony calls Balanced Optical SteadyShot, which Sony refers to as BOSS. This technology allows the cameras to stabilise the video recorded by making the whole lens barrel unit suspend inside the camera. Hence, even when you shake the camera, you can see the lens and image sensor counteracting to the shake, reducing the impact of the shake immensely, creating that smooth and crisp footage. Oh and by the way, since it is mechanical, it works in all the resolution, including 4K. You can find out more here.
Many high end cameras nowadays usually have 2 microphones, most of the time at opposite sides of each other. This is so that is has 2 reference microphones, which cancels out external noise more efficiently and accurately. This will result in a more clear sound with noise such as wind, out of the way.
It has 2 different mounting options. Firstly, to mount to the camera and secondly, to wear it on your wrist.
If you are following Sony’s latest action cameras, you would be definitely be familiar with this remote as it is comes together with the HDR-AS3000R and HDR-AS50R. Its remote, unlike a conventional one is not only able to control when it starts and stops recording, it is also able to show live footage wirelessly. You should be thinking right now, what’s the use of that when I can use my phone right? Well, that’s partly true but a perk would be that it can be worn on your wrist and it is also 3m waterproof, i.e. splash-proof, so you don’t have to worry about it getting wet. This remote will definitely at least for me, make it more convenient to view live and to playback my footages.
Action Cam App
This app is the main app by Sony to connect with the camera. The main feature of this app in my opinion is to transfer videos or pictures that I took, to my phone to post on my social medias. Another feature I occasionally use would be the live stream feature but the reason I don’t use that much is because it can burn my mobile data.
I don’t really edit much using the app, as firstly, my phone’s screen is a little too small and hence editing is inconvenient for me and secondly, it only allow you to use videos of resolution of up to 1080P but many of my footages are in 4K and hence I am unable to edit.

My final verdict? I think that the optical image stabilisation feature that the camera has is really unique and that Sony is able to fit this feature into a camera of this size is commendable. The footages are really smooth and video quality is very good.
If you like travelling or planning to find an action camera that is compact and produces VERY clear and stabilised footages or simply use it to film everyday stuff, this camera is the way to go simply because it is really small and convenient to bringaround.
Where can I buy it?
